because making something disappear isn't good enough. you have to bring it back.
the greater the expectation, the greater the disappointment.
now let's be honest here, how many of you expected a long ramble about results to dominate this post?
I apologise for leaving you disappointed, this post will not contain anything about friday's results, its a tad too early for that. That will probably come around... thursday. which is.. wait. isn't that tomorrow!? which means friday is.... holy shit.
whatever, that wasn't the point anyway.
where was I?
...
...
ah yes... the part about expectations and disappointments.
for some reason i had this misguided idea that the movie The Prestige was one about fighting, maybe not Ip Man style but like at least some magic ands tuff going on. Plus it had Christopher Bale and Hugh Jackman in it which kinda added brownie points to it.
The movie starts off well with some philosophical crap that i buy into 100%. then it hits me. this ain't no fight, its a contest, its a movie, the kind with a solid script with themes imbued in it. Disgusted with myself for having 'wasted' $3 on something I wasn't looking for, I trudged on and just tried to watch it further.
I guess that's my greatest strength and weakness, jumping to conclusions. I read before that detective work is simple, you create a conclusion, and you fit all the jigsaw's into the picture. Its how I used to be able to read people and analyse them well. But in the same way, 1 wrong conclusion and I looked like a bloody big fool.
so there i was expecting some bore fest of a movie. But I realised 1 thing, the movie was directed by Christopher Nolan, whom I've since become a big fan of ever since watching The Dark Knight where he mixed my favourite hero with a really solid storyline packed with twists and turns.
and well, the Prestige kinda surpassed my expectations in alot of ways. Loved the double twists, hated the very wrong science fiction in it, but it was..good i suppose. can't really say I picked up lessons from it unlike the Batman movies which is kinda disappointing but i guess, well, that means I'll have to leave more in my next post. (shrugs)
the pledge. the turn. the prestige
you pledged.
you turned.
are you ever going to do the prestige?
