>_>
<_<
hmm i wanna give my 5 cents about politics leh. do i have to apply for some license?
=p
ok so today was election day. and judging by the few people whom i have seen post about this, yes YOU JT. And people like dennis and Jansen and Amos(haha crushing defeat for WP). the post-65ers do care about politics to a certain extent.
Let's start of with the controversial James Gomez incident. some people claim that the PAP blew it out of proportion totally. I agree to an extent la. a friend of mine pointed this out which i find it to be quite a good point.
sorry i haven't been around the last few days, this is an interesting topic, which i was recently discussing with my friend on thursday.
what zhanzhao has stated above is correct, but he left out one important point - Gomez was not going to hand in the form in the first place. If you have been paying attention to the ward he is really competing in, it required a malay minority. so why did Gomez do what he did? two schools of thought:
a. he was trying to throw a red herring, to mislead the PAP into thinking he was contesting in one ward, when in fact all along he was going to contest in another.
b. he really was trying to use that episode in an attempt to discredit the elections department. He made a show of filling up the form, then Sylvia Lim (i think it was her) moved away, drawing the media cameras with her, while he chucked the papers away. then turning up to accuse the department for misplacing the forms. unfortunately, he didn't take into account the security camera, and when caught, he tried to say it was a misunderstanding etc etc.
whatever was the real reason for his actions, I am of the view that it was not accidental nor negligent. he intentionally filled up the form and intentionally did not submit it.
hmm...i let you guys consider this by yourself.
I think the PAP needs some radical changes or in 1-2 elections time they will really really lose. most of their margins have really dropped and all. and what's worse is that as the next few elections come in, the effect of th post-65ers will come in and make all the difference.
i think the main problem with the PAP now is not them but its really more of..us. Us post-65ers grew up in such a comfortable place that..we kinda really take it for granted. most of us are more concerned with "what the hawk? why is pap banning this shit? knnccb" and most have the mentality that "song bo election day coming le, Singapore going to get a new bankrupt". after what i saw at a forum i frequented yesterday, my feelings were kinda confirmed. Then people started going like "oh u know the voting slip has a serial number which can be traced! PAP USING SCARE TACTIC BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU!!!" I mean like..wad de hawk la, so many people voting u think they gonna get all of you -.-"
so despite the number of people who attended worker's party rally, it still wasn't enough for them to truimph over PAP. so much for all the "workers party got so many people supporting, pap so little". i mean like, PAP's speech can't variate much, i dare say half the singaporeans just went there to hear the the WP wanted to say and not as volunteers. then again, pictures can be intepreted differently, so what i feel and what jt feels may not be the same lol.
back to what concerns me. Aljunied GRC. I stay in Bedok Reservoir, part of it. so naturally i was kinda concerned about whether i might still be under the PAP. To be honest, i was out for personal gains. i would have voted for the WP. ya. think about it, as their 1st GRC, obviously they would have to treat us damn damn damn good. lol. but then again, PAP has treated us well too. we complain no bus, now almost every 10 mins got bus (n the morn peak period). We ask for covered shelter, built in less than a year. the only problem is a lack of a place to play soccer..hmmm..=p
despite everything i've said here, i still think that its a good thing that Mr Chiam and Mr Low retained their positions in the Parliament. I believe that no monopoly of anything can ever lead to anything good. no matter how good or capable its leaders are. Like what mr khoo once said to me, "its not the fault of the leaders sometimes, its the middle tier people that spoil everything". Which is true. so i believe in a few elections time. PAP will start to lose at least 1 GRC.
